Who We Are
The LearningHUB is a free program available to adult learners who want to access a flexible online learning environment. Learners are assigned an online practitioner who will lead and support them on their learning path. Offered by the Centres for Employment & Learning of the Avon Maitland District School Board, the LearningHUB is funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Learners come to the LearningHUB for any number of reasons and from all sorts of backgrounds. Some are here to upgrade job skills, some to prepare for a credit or high school equivalency course, some to learn computer skills and others so they can better manage the ever changing requirements of our evolving world.
As varied as the reasons why, the places our learners come from and their backgrounds are equally diverse. Many learners have very little in the way of formal education. Others have a Grade 12 certificate but find they need upgrading in other areas. Some of our students come with English as a Second Language (ESL) needs.
Regardless of who you are, or what your educational needs and hopes are, the LearningHUB is in place to help.
The LearningHUB is made up of many practitioners who support and mentor online learners as they upgrade for various purposes. The number of practitioners fluctuates depending on the demand for programming and services. LearningHUB Practitioners are Literacy & Basic Skills professionals with a passion for online learning and a desire to mentor learners through to completion of their goals. A number of their stories can be read here!
No matter what their background, our practitioners' success is measured by our learners' accomplishments.
The LearningHUB delivers online Literacy & Basic Skills upgrading to the province of Ontario through flexible learning options. The LearningHUB is available to adult learners who prefer to learn using technology in a supported classroom environment and designed for those who are unable to attend face to face upgrading due to personal barriers such as scheduling, transportation, childcare or personal preference.
