This course is intended to help you familiarize yourself with the basics of accounting. You will learn how to apply fundamental accounting and bookkeeping concepts to evaluate businesses. The course explains the fundamental accounting cycle, and accounting principles to prepare books of accounts. You will prepare financial statements for businesses and explore various career options in accounting.  

Basic Skills for the Real World

Basic Skills for the Real World is for adults at a beginning reading level.

It uses photos and sound to create real-life scenarios on the computer. This includes employment scenarios. Learners have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills as they help realistic characters solve compelling problems.

Business Basics

Business Basics introduces learners to the world of work, exploring important basic business concepts and the impact of their actions on both their personal success and the overall success of their employer.

Career Decision Making

Your personality plays an important role in making your career decisions. In this course you will explore tools to identify your personality traits, set short-term and long-term goals, and draw up an ideal career list that is aligned with your values, interests, personality, and skills.

Communication Skills

Communication Skills teaches the listening and speaking skills essential to effective interpersonal communication and team building, as well as how to listen to and give presentations.

Conflict Resolution Skills and Strategies

The Conflict Resolution Skills & Strategies short course offers helpful advice and activities on stress management and communication skills. It explains conflict and how different people deal with conflict in their lives.  It explains the 4 P’s of Conflict Resolution; Preparedness, Perception, Personality and Practice. The information in this course will help with the understanding and use of conflict resolution skills.

Creating a Digital Portfolio

This short course was originally designed for learners preparing for secondary school credit, who need to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete their Senior PLAR Portfolio. However, this course is also recommended for learners with a post-secondary or employment goal since it focuses on development of an electronic portfolio. In the development of a portfolio, learners will also work through a process of reflection and goal setting.

Creating Your Digital Footprint

In this course you will find out what a digital footprint is and how one is created. You will explore the different reasons people communicate online and look at some online communication tools. Don't worry if you don't know what any of those terms mean yet. You will by the end of the course.

Customer Service Essentials

This course will explore the definition of customer service and the most common occupations that require good customer service skills. Among the content covered will be; workplace expectations, communication skills, being prepared for a career in customer service, and how to have a positive attitude for workplace success. This course will empower participants to deal effectively with difficult customers and make sure that customers have a good service experience.

Goal Setting - Discovering Your Goals

I’m not sure what I want to do with my life, but I want it to be great! Sound familiar? Then this goal-setting course is for you. You will ponder your dreams, consider your values and talents, and examine your needs, commitments, and challenges. Then you’ll have the chance to set a goal and form a plan of action to pursue that goal. This course is full of useful tips on making choices, researching options, and weathering the ups and downs of your journey. Hiring Tests: Putting Your Best Foot Forward

This course will help adults feel more confident when preparing to take a hiring test for employment. By the end of the course adult learners will know more about:

A cover letter gives you an chance to introduce yourself to an employer and encourage them to read on! This class will explain the different parts of a cover letter and information to include in each part to help you get an employer's interest.

Improving Your Job Skills

The Improving Your Job Skills short course will guide you through the basic skills needed in every job. You will look at personal skills like time management and being responsible. You will practise reading, writing and listening to improve your communication skills. You will learn how to gather and manage the information that you need on the job. This course will explore ways to think through problems at work and decide upon solutions. You will pick up valuable tips on working with others, sharing ideas, and reducing conflict. By improving your job skills, you are getting ready for the workplace, or helping yourself improve at your current job.

Introduction to SABA (Live Class)

This class is for first time users of the SABA program. If you are taking a SABA Class on the LearningHUB, we recommend you take this class first. We will practise using the communication tools including the microphone, text chat and participation icons. You will also learn how to use the markup tools and practise using them on the Whiteboard. If this course isn't available before your SABA Class is scheduled, a playback of the session should be watched so you are ready for your first class.

Informational interviews help you identify your strengths and weaknesses during your job search.  Learn how to research the job market and become familiar with the components of a job search portfolio.  This course will help you compare careers by looking at educational and skill requirements, salaries, and lifestyle factors.

Maintaining Healthy Self-Esteem On and Off the Job - Part 1

The Maintaining Healthy Self Esteem On and Off the Job is a two-part short course. This is Part 1. In this course you will discover that healthy self-esteem is something that we work on over our lifetime. This five-module online course will help you to develop methods for increasing your self-esteem and maintaining it through times of stress. Participation in online activities and discussions will help you to practise new life skills. This course is interesting and informative, and you will come away with useful tips for success in life and work.

Maintaining Healthy Self-Esteem On and Off the Job - Part 2

This is the second part of a two-part course on self-esteem. The first part of the course introduced you to self-esteem basics. Part 2 is directed at issues you might face and how to keep your self-esteem boat afloat. You'll find Part 2 loaded with tips on keeping your self-esteem intact while navigating the sometimes rough waters of the workplace! Yes, it's a wilderness out there: this course is designed to show you ways to increase your resiliency both on and off the job.

On the Job Report Writing

This course will help you learn how to write reports for the workplace. You will learn to gather the information you need and put information in a report format so that your readers can find the information they require easily. This course will cover the steps to follow in writing a report and understanding why people write them. You will also learn what parts you need to include in a report from beginning to end. Information gathering, editing, and proofreading steps will be explained. Your online instructor will guide you through the report writing process and illustrate what a finished report looks like.
