Safe Food Handling

This course introduces the principles of food safety and describes cross-contamination and food allergies. You will learn procedures for storing, prepping, cooking, cooling and reheating foods. You will learn the correct use of gloves and other hygiene practices. You will learn the difference between cleaning and sanitizing. This course also focuses on how to implement time and temperature control to prevent food contamination at various stages in the flow of food handling.

This is a great course for learners who are new to the LearningHUB or online learning! In this course, we give you strategies and tips to set you up for success! You will identify your learning style and discover some ways to take advantage of your learning preferences. You will be introduced to memory and study tips as well as strategies for managing your time, reaching out for help, setting goals and monitoring your progress. You will learn to identify your learning challenges and how to come up with solutions when faced with an obstacle.

Using Email in the Workplace (Live Class)

Take your basic e-mail skills to the next level! This class teaches about e-mail accounts and their basic features. You will learn how to create effective e-mails and begin to understand how others interpret your messages. Discover how you can maximize your time when using e-mail and learn the "dos" and "don'ts" of using e-mail in the workplace.

 

Workplace Communication (Live Class)

Communicating at work is challenging.  Everyone has a different personality and communication style.  If you want to succeed at work, you need to communicate and listen well. Take this class to learn how to improve your listening skills, how to handle difficult people at work, how your body language affects others and how communication styles and rules change in our digital world. We will also discuss how workplace harassment and violence are against Ontario law.

The workplace can be confusing with so many rules to follow.  Take this class to learn what employers expect from you. You will learn how to prepare for your first day and get tips to use when faced with a challenge. We will explain the skills employers look for and talk about your rights as an employee when it comes to your pay, breaks and safety.   

 

Writing in the Workplace

In these courses, learners are introduced to the idea of business writing, and how this style differs from academic and personal writing.  Learners will identify the purpose and audience of a business message and learn strategies for creating memos, emails, letters and reports as well as social media and blog posts.
