learner stories

My goal is to go to college for training so that I may continue to be a productive member of society. In order to attain my goal, the LearningHUB allows me to study subjects that are needed for me to progress past secondary school, through the grade 12 equivalency test.

I picked the LearningHUB to upgrade my math to help me work towards my grade 12 diploma. I find the LearningHUB has been a great resource to do this because my practitioner guides me through my upgrading and helps me to learn the skills I need. I’m glad I chose this path for my math upgrading.

There was a time when I couldn't even spell truck driver, and now I am one. This statement shows an exaggerated lack of intelligence but lately that is how I've been feeling. For almost 3 decades I have been a truck driver. Unfortunately due to a dramatic change of circumstances I can no longer drive truck. Therefore I must pursue a career change. I find, much to my chagrin, that a grade 10 education and decades of life experience are no longer qualities employers look for. In order to compete in today's job market a person must advance from the nineteenth century and at least get near the twenty first. For this reason I have written and achieved the GED to demonstrate a grade 12 level of intelligence and have taken a course in computer basics.

When I lost my job last fall I didn't know where to turn. After working in a production job for 22 years, I didn't have the confidence in myself to go back and finish my grade 12. My LearningHUB practitioner helped me upgrade my math and science to be ready to write the GED test. I have been able to achieve my goal and continue supporting my family without leaving my community. With the help of the LearningHUB I now have a new career that I can be proud of.
